Match report: Enfield Town v Kingstonian

Enfield Town 2-5 Kingstonian

Saturday 9th August 2014
Ryman League Premier Division

Enfield Town FC logoGoodness me we knew it would be a tough opener v Kingstonian (KFC) but we more than contributed in the 5 goals that were conceded. It was also pretty clear that KFC will once again be challenging for the RPL Title come April and look a good bet at the bookies pre match 9/1 price. I’m sure they’ve come in a bit now.

All look good after 15 minutes, firstly KFC were down to 10 men following a dreadful 2 footed challenge on Neil Cousins. 5 mins later Corey Whiteley puts us 1-0 up with a smart edge of the box finish after picking up a loose ball.

However and despite large periods of possession we were caught out at set pieces and the counter attack time and time again to the extent that we were fortunate to just be 1-2 down at half time. Although Liam Hope could have put us 2-1 up with a golden opportunity from a keepers spill, but his usually ruthless nature deserted him as he ballooned his shot over from 10 yards out.

We started brightly in the Second half Substitutes Mark Kirby and Tyler Campbell making an immediate impact to set up Corey Whiteley for his and our second goal of the game 2-2.

We were really on top now Corey and Tyler marauding down the wings but no one else available to take advantage in front of the KFC goal.

A disastrous mix up in our defence created an OG to put us 2-3 down and were then outpaced at the back for goals 4 + 5.

Losing 5-2 or 1-0 it’s still only 3pts dropped with 45 games to go. We have plenty of games to get the ‘new’ team and defence settled and I’m sure George and Bradley will.

We go again with 2 away games in 5 days at Harrow (lost 3-2 at Dulwich) and Bury (who lost 0-2 at Hendon) on Tuesday evening and next Saturday respectively. Concede goals and lose both these games and the alarm bells will be sounding loud and clear even after only 3 games.

But we believe in our manager and the Enfield Town Ultras will be at Harrow in force on Tuesday to back the team as they did so noisily on Saturday in front of a 500+ crowd.
