altonsylvestermascotThis was a good result and performance from the young Brewers today, with eight first team regulars not available and six young players making their combined counties first team debuts, thirteen of the fifteen man squad were aged 17 – 21 years old. This shows the quality of young players the club is starting to bring through.

Dorking made a bright start taking the game to the Brewers. Most of the early play was in the Brewers half but it was mainly from long balls which the Brewers defensive line dealt with.

The Brewers were working the ball and started to keep good possession, but did not make many chances in the final third. The Brewers did make the break through when a searching ball from Moore found Burch in the final third. The Dorking centre back bounced off of Burch and Burch slotted the ball home from 18 yards with his left foot. The referee disallowed the goal for what he described as a “foul by Burch”.

Dorking then thought they had scored when Moore and Buffton got caught out in possession, the on running striker fouled Buffton before slotting the ball home, this goal was also disallowed.

The first half finish 0 – 0. Both teams had good possession of the ball in the second half, with neither team dominating for long periods.

The Brewers did take the lead. An angled cross from Moore into the Dorking box to Burch was cleverly played back across the box to Hunter, who lost his marker and headed the ball into the back of the net from 3 yards.

Dorking equalised not long after the Brewers goal, a free kick was awarded by the referee to Dorking in their own half, the assistant referee flagged to say the free kick should have been given to the Brewers but for some reason the referee over turn the assistant referee’s decision. The ball was pumped onto the edge of the Brewers box, the Dorking striker won the header which in turn looped into the back of the Brewers net.

For the next 10 minutes Dorking put the pressure on the young Brewers, but the Brewers defended well and all the shots were from long range.

The Brewers took the lead again, a flowing move resulted in a cross from the right hand side which saw Browning at the back post angle his header back to Fox, Fox then powered his header from 10 yards into the top corner of the Dorking goal.

The Brewers then saw out the game and won all three points.

The Brewers now look forward to next week’s game which is away to Ash United, 15:00 kick off.
