Unless you’re one of those ostriches that Nigel Pearson likes to hunt, you will be aware that Enfield Town Football Club have just received a judgement from the Ryman League deducting them 3 points. This is punishment for allegedly fielding an ineligible player. The points deduction means that they will lose their play-off spot.
We think this is wrong.
We agree with Enfield Town that they acted as properly as they could and that errors in the official FA database of suspensions are the prime reason behind them ‘fielding an ineligible player’. Enfield maintain that the FA were aware of their situation and guided them through an agreed solution at the time. It was only recently that the case was re-opened. But even then, the FA investigation concluded that a warning to Enfield was sufficient. Following the FA’s decision, the Ryman League however decided to deduct the club 3 points.
Lewes FC has written the following letter to the Chairmen of the other 14 league clubs who are currently outside the play-off (and relegation) zone.
