Enfield Town FC 2-1 Staines Town
Saturday 17 October 2015
Ryman League Premier Division
Enfield started well with Corey Whitely and Bobby Devyne both causing the Staines defence problems. Whitley calling the Staines keeper Jack Turner into action to make a save, Bobby Devyne shooting narrowly wide of the post before Harold Joseph was denied by the crossbar as Bradley Quinton’s side put the visitors under pressure with pacey attacking play from midfield led by Samir Bihmoutine.
Staines gradully kicked into gear and with keeper Nathan McDonald rallying his defence to scramble clear an attack as Enfield held-out. Enfield however seemed to have the upper hand. On 34 mins Bobby Devyne was substituted after picking up a knock in the 15th minute, making way for Tashan Hayden Smith, who added another dimension to Enfield’s attacking formation. Two minutes later, as Enfield thrust forward, the ball was headed down by Claudiu Vilcu to Corey Whitely who hit a sweet strike from the edge of the box to beat Turner off the upright and provide a deserved lead for the industrious Town on 36 minutes.
With the goal, the pace of the game changed and Staines drew a save from Nathan McDonald before a mesmerizing run from Samir Bihmoutine who picked up the ball on the halfway line and stormed the Staines defence before releasing a well struck shot from the edge of the box which flew into the top of the net in the 40th minute.
In the second half Staines came out fighting with their number 10, Jack Hutchinson calling keeper Nathan McDonald into action. A battle in midfield ensued as both sides sought to get the upper hand, with Staines no.8 Ahmed Abdulla awarded a yellow for a mistimed challenge on Bihmoutine and Enfield’s Harold Joseph picking up a debatable yellow for a challenge after the linesman had flagged.
Staines pushed on and had Enfield on the back foot for a period, attacking down the wings to force the defence back and challenge with a corner. It was a goal kick from Turner which then bounced high over the defence and Jack Hutchinson locked-on with a lobbed volley that beat Nathan McDonald from the edge of the area.
The remainder of the game was hard fought with both sides testing each other. Tashen Hayden Smith making much of the running for Enfield Town as he tried to release Whitley on goal. Staines put Enfield under considerable pressure in the last 10 minutes as they hoped to clinch a draw, but the Town defence marshalled by Claudio Vilcu held strong, despite Staines double substitution which saw former Enfield forward Micheal Kalu and Ahmed Abdullah replaced by Boakye and Thomas. Town kept up the attack with Harry Ottaway firing wide from 15 yards after picking-up a long goal kick from McDonald and Ryan Doyle then narrowly missed, heading over the bar from Hayden Smith free-kick. The skipper was then denied when he hit a fiercely-struck volley from a corner which had the keeper beat, but was somehow cleared by a defender, only to be caught by the Staines stopper.
