Middlesbrough fans light up Old Trafford in Save Our Steel solidarity

Middlesborough at Old Trafford 28Oct15Over ten thousand Boro fans held up their mobile phone lights at Old Trafford during Middlesbrough’s game with Man United in an act of solidarity with the thousand of steel workers who have lost their jobs on Teesside.

As many as 1,700 workers will lose their livelihoods with the closure of the SSI steel plant in Redcar, with another 1,000 redundancies expected at the Tata Steel plant in Lincolnshire.

The Save Our Steel campaign has worked tirelessly to highlight the fact that one of the UK’s biggest steelmaking plants is to stop production after nearly 100 years.

Boro’s ultras Red Faction have also been actively involved in the campaign.
