Fans not criminals, recognise fans rights, no to facial recognition
Scottish football league want to introduce more intrusive surveillance in the form of facial recognition technology to be used against all football fans inside the ground as they explain in their proposal – to scan the crowd in an attempt to identify those previously identified as ‘troublemakers’. This would necessarily mean creating a database of fans who should be banned from grounds with the facility to alert clubs of those on the ‘blacklist’ who try to gain entry to the stadium while banned.
The Scottish Government (SNP) and the Scottish leagues’ governing body have reportedly met to discuss financial help for the multi-million pound scheme to identify offenders.
